The Call of the Wild, Jack London’s 1903 novel, follows Buck, a domesticated dog living a pampered life at a ranch in the Santa Clara Valley of California. Buck’s world is shattered when he is stolen from his comfortable home and sold into service as a sled dog in Alaska. As he battles in his new job with the freezing cold and fierce rivals he must fight to survive.
