Content Policy

The Literary Kingdom is a Christian business and therefore this policy has been created with Christian values in mind. This policy is in place to create a safe and respectful place in The Literary Kingdom community and to ensure the stories being told on our platform do not contribute to real-world harm.

Our content policy will help you understand what you can and cannot post.

Before you begin writing on The Literary Kingdom, please read the following guidelines:

  • Be respectful of other readers and writers
  • Do not post anything you may regret in the future
  • Do not post information that reveals personal information about somebody else
  • Do your research and make your writing as reliable and true as possible

Rating your story

Before you publish your story, you will be asked which age bracket your story is for; the options will be young adults (for ages 13-17) or adults (for ages 18 and over).

Content warnings

If your story contains self-harm or a graphic depiction of violence such as emotional or physical violence, you must advise us of this before publishing. We may put a warning on the book to make some readers aware.

Publishing your book

When submitting your work to be published, please ensure that your book is complete. We aim to provide our readers with polished, full-length stories they can read and complete at their own pace.

Pricing your book

Before publishing your book, you must select one of four pricing models. Although it is down to each author’s discretion to price their book, we suggest you follow the below pricing guidelines for your book to stand its best chance at success.

  • £0.00. Suitable for new writers who are seeking feedback and reviews, and whose goal is to build their online presence.
  • £0.99 or £1.99. Suitable for writers who have a few followers, who have received over 100 positive reviews on their book. Your book should have at least a 3.5-star rating.
  • £2.99. Suitable for writers whose book has been professionally edited.
  • £4.99. Suitable for books recommended by The Literary Kingdom.

We have set this pricing structure up with consideration given to what readers would like to and/or expect to pay for an e-book, but with flexibility for authors to make the final decision.

Prohibited Content

Content must not include or embody, in whole or part, the following, as determined by The Literary Kingdom’s sole discretion:

  • Any content that infringes any intellectual property right (including, but not limited to, copywriting, trademark, publicity, or privacy rights) belonging to a third party.
  • Any content that is threatening, bullying, abusing or invading another person’s privacy, or causing annoyance, inconvenience, or anxiety, or may upset or embarrass someone
  • Content that encourages or gives instruction on self-harm.

(Except when the writing is about recovery, coping with self-harm, or portraying the negative consequences as these can be inspiring, and insightful, encourage compassion, and foster healthy discussion)

  • Content that encourages violence
  • Content that contains material that is offensive, hateful, or discriminatory or that aims to incite violence against a particular group of people, for example, that which is homophobic, racist, ageist
  • Content that promotes directly or indirectly any illegal activity
  • Content that contains material that is defamatory or disparaging to The Literary Kingdom
  • Erotica or pornographic material. The Literary Kingdom considers a story to be erotica when it exists solely for the purpose of sexual stimulation. If your story contains a sex scene, you must declare it before posting the story; it will be at our sole discretion if this book can be published on our site.
  • Content that goes against Christian values, or appears to serve the purpose of promoting or encouraging sin (examples include, but are not limited to, homosexual relationships, abortion, and practising witchcraft).
  • Content that advocates terrorism
  • Content that promotes animal abuse
  • Content that breaches a legal duty owed to a third party, such as a contractual duty, or confidential obligation
  • Content that is being used to impersonate any person, deceive or misrepresent your identity or affiliation with a third party
  • Content that contains solicitations and advertising for a user to buy any product or service and/or includes links within the content to promotions with third-party publishers and digital platforms
  • Content that gives the impression that it emanates from The Literary Kingdom, even when that is not the case
  • Spam

This list applies to published content, comments or posts, messages to other users, information on your account (including your username), and emails to The Literary Kingdom.

Content containing any of the above may be deleted, and you may receive a warning from us not to post this type of content again. Multiple warnings may result in your account being deleted and it will be at the discretion of The Literary Kingdom to refund you any part of your subscription. We reserve the right to publish, refuse publication or delete books we feel are not the right fit for our audience.

Media on The Literary Kingdom

Media includes videos, sounds, images, and gifs. Media that does not follow our content guidelines will be immediately removed. The following media is not allowed:

  • Media that contains exposure of private body parts (such as breasts, bums, or genitalia)
  • Media which shows a sexual act
  • Media which contains self-harm
  • Media that appears to serve the purpose of promoting sin (for example homosexuality, witchcraft, abortion, adultery).

We are committed to upholding the principles of the Christian faith through the works published on our website. We will regularly review content published and reserve the right to remove work that violates our content guidelines. To avoid disappointment, please read the content guidelines before attempting to publish your work.

Removing your book

If you would like to remove your work from our platform, you must submit a request to customer.support@theliterarykingdom.com with “request for removal” the subject line. Please include in your email the following information:

  • The title of your work
  • The name of your Literary Kingdom account
  • The reason you would like your book to be removed

You may only request the removal of one book in each Request for Removal. To remove multiple books from our website, you must submit a Request for Removal for each book.

Marketing

At the discretion of The Literary Kingdom, we may market and/or promote your books on our platform. However, this is not guaranteed, nor should be counted on by you. If The Literary Kingdom creates any marketing materials to promote your work, (including, without limitation, graphics, images, video, taglines, and written content) all rights are owned exclusively by The Literary Kingdom, and your approval will not be required for the content or use of any Literary Kingdom Marketing content. You cannot use any of the marketing material we develop for your work without our written authorisation.
